Title: Catalogue Workflow in Private Universities
Host Organization: Concordia University
Field Supervisor: Marcus Fry
An important part of any library, be it academic or public, is cataloguing. It keeps collections in searchable format and adds to the collection. Concordia, a small private university in Austin has a small library staff and the role of cataloguer is often given to MLIS students. Previously there were only a scattered amount of disjointed “cheat sheets” but never a clearly defined processing guidebook. In addition to continuing my cataloguing workload for Concordia I created a guidebook to help future workers, complete with step-by-step instructions, tips, and visuals. The project also included phone interviews with comparable intuitions around the state to learn from other department’s processes and try and incorporate helpful workflow ideas.
